Terms and Conditions
Welcome to the North Dorset Photo Competition! Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before entering. By submitting your photos, you agree to be bound by these terms.
1. Eligibility:
- The Competition is open to amateur and professional photographers of all ages.
- For improved safeguarding, we request that under 16s are entered using a parent/guardian's contact details.
- Members of the North Dorset Tourism Committee, Employees of Visit Dorset, Dorset County Council, participating town councils, and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
- Photos must have been taken within the North Dorset area.
2. Photo Submission:
- Photos must be submitted electronically via northdorsetphoto.co.uk.
- Area Selection: When submitting your photo, you must select the nearest North Dorset town where the photo was taken. This selection determines which town's competition your photo will be entered into.
- Image Resolution: Submitted photos should be high-resolution JPEG files, suitable for printing and online display. We recommend a minimum of 3000 pixels on the longest side. Lower resolution images may be accepted but could impact judging and reproduction quality.
- File Size: There may be a file size limit for uploads. Please check the website for current restrictions.
- Photo Content: Photos must be appropriate for all audiences and must not contain any offensive, defamatory, nudity, or illegal content. We reserve the right to disqualify any photo that violates these guidelines.
- Metadata: While not mandatory, including metadata (date, time, location) with your photo is encouraged.
- Number of Entries: Up to a maximum of 3 entries per person, per town. The same entry cannot be used in multiple towns.
3. Professional Category Definition:
The "Professional" category is designed for photographers who make a living from photography or possess advanced skills. The following criteria define the "Professional" category:
- Professional Experience: Photographers who have worked professionally, either full-time or part-time.
- Training and Education: Those who have formal education or extensive training in photography.
- Income from Photography: Individuals who earn a significant portion of their income from photography.
- Advanced Skills: Photographers with advanced technical skills and a high level of artistic ability.
Entrants are responsible for accurately classifying themselves. We reserve the right to reclassify entries if there is reason to believe an entrant has miscategorised themselves.
4. Copyright and Licensing:
- The photographer retains full copyright ownership of their submitted photos.
- By submitting a photo, you grant Visit Dorset, the North Dorset Tourism Committee, Dorset County Council, and participating town councils a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use the photo for the following purposes:
- Displaying the photo on the Competition website and in online galleries.
- Sharing the photo on social media platforms for promotional purposes related to the Competition and North Dorset tourism.
- Using the photo in printed materials, such as brochures, leaflets, and exhibitions, for promotional purposes related to the Competition and North Dorset tourism.
- Using the photo in any other media (online and offline) for the promotion of the Competition and North Dorset tourism.
- Photographers will be credited whenever their photos are used.
- This license is granted for in perpetuity.
5. Judging and Winners:
- Winners will be selected by a panel of judges appointed by the organisers.
- The judges' decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Prizes are non-transferable and no cash alternatives will be offered (unless otherwise stated).
- Winners will be notified by email.
6. Data Protection:
- By entering the Competition, you agree to the collection and use of your personal information as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Liability:
- The organisers are not responsible for any loss or damage to photos submitted to the Competition.
- The organisers reserve the right to cancel or amend the Competition at any time without notice.
8. Governing Law:
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
